22/7 2:30 Maths Yr 8 Mrs. B.

All students asked to stand and greet teacher and teacher-in-taining.
Continuing sheet from last lesson- students qiet, on task (expectation?).
Rearranged students at the start of the lesson, so students were closer to the front.
Students took turns to offer answers for the last sheet (a row each) correcting where mistakes arose.
All instructions were verbal AND written- had fun with students.
Sheet- list of programs and inputs.
Then Ex. 4.3, Qs 3, 1, 2

25/7 8:55 History Yr 10 Dr. S.

Informal- all sit down, meeting-style. No introduction.
"How do you organise yourselves?" leading into discussion about VCE study and organisation techniques. More general discussion.
Everyone was happy to contribute (confident they'd be heard), even if they weren't sure.
Revision- "So I know you have the concepts."
Justice in Sumner worksheet.
Expectations for the discussion were set (page should be covered in notes).

Management out of the way first- ipod hidden, classroom set up. Shifted students in anticipation.
"Books underneath tables!"
Roll call.
"Open organisers", told them exactly what to write and where.
Another teacher entered: "Class, stand up!"
Garden Beds activity sheet.
"Why are we doing algebra?"
Oral instruction from sheet. Very CLEAR instructions, clarifying possible footfalls.
Class chose pronumerals.
Student arrived from music lesson.
Excellent questioning: Give terminology out of neccessity.
After the hypothesis was put forward: Test-> confirm.
Supplementing the written statement with a pictorial one (multiple angles of attack for one concept).
Tut tut- "We're not thinking, bright class."
Terminology: Constant, Variable/Pronumeral, Coefficient.

Multiple streams working- personalised learning plans.
Some finishing tests, some preparing for the next one, others doing games on worksheets.
Management of specific students through shifting students, threatening with detention, etc.
"Everybody, open books!"
Told specific students (who needed it) how the should have their page set out.
"I'm going to remind you- that's the second time!"

Intro to project- some nearly finished, some yet to choose theme:
-Expectations set: misbehaviour linked to extra work for students in their own time (limited class access to computers)
Hovered to ensure students were on task.

Walked in, immediately asked students to don lab coats.
Page layout given explicitly. Rotation among students for giving answers and setting up prac details.
Lots of clarification: Leave room for...'x'
Lively students given "fun" tasks (lighting bunsen, etc.)

Only one-word commands for behavioural management- essentially none needed (high achievers class).
Intro: Discussion on recent meeting.
LOTS of DI, then setting out the laws/principles again.
Students wanted to be there. Minimal coaxing needed.

Timeline on board to begin with, as well as homework.
Used "Time insentive" on virtual whiteboard to great effect. Students enjoyed selecting the warning sound to mark the end of the time, and they didn't have to ask how long was left.
Emphasis on setting out. Competition was encouraged to motivate the fast students.
