Year 7 Maths Lesson 4: Algebra terminology
Learning Objectives:
Algebra terminology:
-terms, expressions, equations, coefficients, variables, constants
Introduction:

Make sure they write the note you write on the board in their note books
Notes:
Algebra is the language of mathematics
"Sum" means add
"Difference" means subtract
"Product" means multiply
The sum of m and n:
m + n
The product of p and q:
p*q
=pq
5 less than k:
k - 5
Seven lots of W:
7*W
=7W
The following definitions to include examples:
VARIABLE or PRONUMERAL:
A letter used to represent an unknown number
EXPRESSION: A statement using variables, and operation signs
EQUATION: An expression containing an equals sign
TERMS: The parts of an expression/equation that are separated by a "+" or "-"
CONSTANT: A term that is only a number
COEFFICIENT: The number infront of a variable

I expect no discussion, outside of the task at hand, but I'd prefer if you asked me any questions you have.
We didn't get enough work done, and this is a very important topic.
I expect nobody to ask a question without putting up their hand.
